Great fun was had this past weekend in Carrabassett Valley during NEMBA Trail Fest sponsored by CRNEMBA and Maine Huts and Trails. Despite a wet forecast, 42 people from all over New England descended on Carrabassett Valley and what they found was good friends, sunny days and blue skies –you never know until you go!. Thank you to all who came to help us build new single track and share some fun at Stratton Brook Hut. The volunteer crews worked on a new section of trail off Crocker Town that winds past a wonderful overlook with spectacular views of Sugarloaf Mountain and then into a lollipop loop in a zone with some really interesting terrain. The work included pruning, raking, benching, and some significant rock work –in other words something for everyone. Hats off to Maine Huts and Trails for donating the use of the hut, the service of its staff, and the hot fresh food to fuel us! The hospitality we enjoyed at the hut was (as usual) world class! A special thanks to Josh Tauses, Joe Hines, and Dwight Gies; these guys put their sweat into the trails all week as professional builders and then volunteer to help some more for the weekend! Its folks like these that make CRNEMBA. If you have not had a chance to participate in this event please consider joining us next year.
