Presented by Sugarloaf and supported by Carrabassett Region NEMBA and Maine Huts, this Festival will feature night riding at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center on Friday April 3 from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM with dinner available from Rolling Fatties, a Kingfield based “mobile food joint rolling up the best of the local harvest in the form of a big FAT burrito” will be on hand serving up burrito’s and other fare. And with a name like Rolling Fatties, you had to know that the owners Rob and Polly MacMichael were fat-tire bike enthusiasts. Trails around the Outdoor Center will be open for night riding and a bon-fire will crackling. Pre-race line up at 6:50 in front of the Sugarloaf base lodge (aka the Beach). The Fat Tire Race will held on Saturday, April 4 and feature a mass start at 7:00 am from the start/finish line, located directly above the Beach. Racers will switchback climb the Boardwalk ski trail, before topping out at the Jean Luce building at the start of the downhill slalom portion of the course. Racers will then descend the Banked Slalom course, a series of roughly 30 banked turns, before finishing at the start/finish line, directly above the Beach. Awards will be presented at 9:30 AM on the Beach in multiple divisions to the fastest climber and descender as well as to the racer with the fastest combined time. It’ll be early but come watch the action! We also hope you’ll join us for the Carrabassett Region New England Mountain Bike Association (CRNEMBA) kickoff party Saturday night from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Sugarloaf Inn and the Stratton Brook Lunch Ride on Sunday with leaves from the Campbell Field Trailhead, right in Carrabassett Valley, at 8:00 am.
